Fire Season Is Here: Get Your Saws Ready
Posted by the Missoula Saws Team
Anyone who lives in western Montana knows the drill. When the smoke rolls in and the grass turns golden, it’s time to get serious about property prep. Whether you’re clearing defensible space around your home or helping out a neighbor, a sharp, well-maintained saw makes the job safer and a whole lot faster.
Our Fire Season Prep Checklist
Before you fire up the saw, we recommend running through these basics:
- Sharpen your chain. A dull chain forces you to push harder, which increases fatigue and kickback risk. If you’re getting sawdust instead of chips, it’s time.
- Check your bar and chain oil. Running dry is the fastest way to ruin a good bar.
- Inspect the air filter and spark plug. A clogged filter or worn plug can leave you with a saw that struggles when you need it most.
- Clean the spark arrestor. This one matters. In dry conditions, a clogged arrestor is a real fire hazard.
- Have a plan. Keep a shovel, water, and a fire extinguisher within reach any time you’re cutting in dry conditions.
Special Fire Season Service
Through the end of September, we’re offering priority sharpening and tune-ups for anyone doing fuel reduction work. Drop your saw off in the morning and we’ll do our best to have it ready the next day.
Know the Rules
Fire restrictions can change quickly, and they often limit when and where you can use power equipment. Check with your local fire authority before you cut, and never run a saw during restricted hours.
Stay safe out there, and give us a call if you have questions. We’re always happy to talk through your setup.
